Apply for Hites Transfer Scholarships

Posted By Nicole Schoenstein, Chapter President on February 8th, 2010

Phi Theta Kappa members with 3.5 GPAs who are currently enrolled in community colleges and planning to transfer to a baccalaureate-degree institution in the fall of 2010 are invited to apply for Hites Transfer Scholarships of $7,500.

The Hites Transfer Scholarships, the largest offered by Phi Theta Kappa, were established through a $1 million endowment funded by the Hites Community College Scholarship Foundation and donations from Society constituents. Contributions
are now being accepted for a second $1 million endowment. Visit the online
Press Room for more
information.

“This is the largest scholarship endowment in Phi Theta Kappa’s history, and it could not have come at a better time,” said Dr. Rod A. Risley, Phi Theta Kappa’s Executive Director.

“When the Hites Foundation first came to us, no one could have predicted the economic challenges now facing both students and colleges,” Dr. Risley continued. “The Hites Scholarships will help meet a need that becomes more crucial every day, and because of the Hites Foundation, generations of Phi Theta Kappa members will be able to pursue their educational goals and achieve their dreams.”

Hites Transfer Scholarship Applications must be submitted online by the end of the day of March 1, 2010. Winners will be announced in August.

Only Phi Theta Kappa members may apply for Hites Scholarships. To be eligible, a member must be enrolled in community college through March 2010; have a 3.5 GPA, and must have completed a minimum of 50 semester credits. Complete eligibility information is available online.

Members submit applications online, by using the username and password supplied in an email at the time of their induction – the same username and password required to access CollegeFish.org. Students who do not know their username and password may take the “lost password” link for a replacement.

The application requires advisor certification, two letters of recommendation and a transcript, in addition to short essay answers and a 500-word essay. Visit the Hites Transfer Scholarship webpages to complete an application.
