A Thank You from Rutgers Against Hunger.
Dear Nicole,
On behalf of Rutgers Against Hunger, I extend my sincere gratitude to you and the members of your Adopt-a-Family team for your generosity and goodness of heart in helping to brighten the recent holiday season for a New Jersey family in need. (Please forward this message to all those who helped.)
As participants in the first Adopt-a-Family Campaign sponsored by Rutgers Against Hunger, your group joined others across the university to bring joy to 200 families, including hundreds of children throughout the state. Hundreds of boxes filled with food and gifts were distributed through collaborating agencies in time for the holidays.
The Rutgers community, including groups like yours, has rallied around Rutgers Against Hunger since it was established in November 2008. Students, employees, and alumni have contributed more than 27 tons of food and donated $107,000 to food banks and emergency food pantries. They also have baked pies, picked crops, provided community education, and volunteered at soup kitchens and schools serving people in need. Adopt-a-Family is yet another way for us to make a difference in the lives of New Jersey families with limited resources.
We greatly appreciate the time and effort you and your colleagues put into this project. We hope you will continue to participate in causes such as Rutgers Against Hunger that aim to improve life for those less fortunate.
Sincerely yours,
Richard L. McCormick
President

Scridb filterLooking for Student Government Association (SGA) Representative.
Atlantic Cape Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Alpha Delta Mu, is looking for a new SGA Representative. Unfortunately for us, our previous SGA Representative had to step down due to being accepted into Stockton College’s nursing program.
An SGA Rep. is an imperative part of any club at ACCC. In fact, without a representative, the club cannot be a club.
Therefore, we are looking to find someone as soon as possible to fill this important role. If you or anyone you know is interested, have them contact Nicole Schoenstein at president@alphadeltamu.net
Please note that in order to be an SGA representative, you must meet and/or follow the following criteria:
-
1. You must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA
2. Phi Theta Kappa meetings the first and third Tuesday of the month from 12:30 – 1:45 in room D-131. Your attendance to the Phi Theta Kappa chapter meetings is expected at all times so that you stay informed of what activities the chapter plans to perform and will request authorization for.
3. All activity requests are to be approved by the SGA. Your presence at the SGA meetings is required for any activity to be approved. SGA may table club activities if the SGA representative is not present during their meeting.
4. The SGA Senate meets every Thursday, from 12:30 pm until approx. 1:45 pm in J-206. Please be on time.
5. You need to attend chapter meetings as well as SGA Senate meetings. Please make sure your class and work schedule do not conflict with the times and dates of the meetings.
6. If you need to be absent for an SGA meeting, you must notify your chapter President and/or Vice President ahead of time so that she/he may find you an alternate.
7. After you attend the SGA meeting, email your chapter President and Vice-president and report the main topics discussed during the meeting and confirm if activities requested were approved or tabled.
8. During the SGA meetings, the representatives will be asked to vote on certain activities and/or proposals. When voting, keep in mind the ideals of the chapter.
9. Maintain copies of all SGA meeting minutes as the chapter may need to refer to them for required information.

On Saturday, January 9th, 2010, the Atlantic Cape Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Alpha Delta Mu, hosted a Hallmark Awards Workshop. This workshop gave Phi Theta Kappa chapters in the Middle States Region an opportunity to bring their hallmarks to be read for immediate feedback onsite, before they submit them for judging. I am happy to report that nine (9) representatives from the following chapters were in attendance: Iota Xi, Alpha Nu Omega, Alpha Alpha Theta and Alpha Delta Mu. Members of the Middle States Regional Alumni Association, Ms. Pattie Van Atter and Mr. John Ortiz graciously volunteered their time to review hallmark entries with those who attended. Two regional officers, New Jersey State President, Joe Eulo and Delaware/Maryland State President, Matt Lawson and alumni member Chris Taitt also attended to provide guidance and assistance.
I would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Brittany A. Williams-Goldstein who provided supervisory support at the Hallmark Awards Workshop. This event could not have happened without her.

Several Phi Theta Kappa members volunteered their time to participate in the Student Government Association’s annual Adopt-A-School Event. Members who volunteered include: Don Palmieri, Nicole Schoenstein, Tammy Medica, Dorothy Doyne, Angela Levy, Raquel Richardson, Courtney Rice and Tashiva Torres.
Volunteers were responsible for assisting over sixty (60) first grade children from Egg Harbor City’s Charles L. Spragg Elementary School with various projects, such as decorating stockings and gingerbread men. Three of the members, Nicole Schoenstein, Tammy Medica and Dorothy Doyne agreed to play the part of elves, while another member, Don Palmieri, played Santa.

Adopt-a-Family Drive Was a Huge Success!
In November, the Phi Theta Kappa club placed five (5) 18×18x24 boxes around the Mays Landing campus to collect donations for a family of four (4), including a 13-month old girl and a 6-year old boy. Many members also took it upon themselves to donate.
Last Thursday night Vice President, Tammy Medica, Historian, Tina McConnell, and myself sorted through each of the boxes to prepare them for delivery to the family. I am pleased to report that every box was full. Donations included clothes, food, toys and personal care items.
What a great accomplishment, everybody!
