The New Jersey Council of County Colleges honored Atlantic Cape Community College students Russell Mulford of Tuckahoe and Tannette Medica of Egg Harbor Township, along with 29 additional New Jersey community college students and their families at its 16th annual Phi Theta Kappa Day celebration May 6 in Trenton. The two students were selected to the 2010 All-New Jersey Academic team and received certificates and medallions.
After attending the Casino Career Institute and gaining experience in the casino industry as a table games dealer, Mulford returned to Atlantic Cape and is pursuing an associate degree in business administration. Medica, a Michigan native who dedicated nearly three years to the armed forces, will graduate with an associate degree in paralegal studies this month.
“Each year, the New Jersey Council of County Colleges hosts this program to recognize the members of the New Jersey All-State Academic Team, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community colleges, and the Coca-Cola Foundation,” said NJCCC President Dr. Lawrence Nespoli. “These students are recognized for their outstanding academic achievement and exceptional service to their communities as members of Phi Theta Kappa at their local community colleges.”
The New Jersey Phi Theta Kappa Day Celebration is sponsored by PSE&G. Also, 20 of New Jersey’s four-year colleges and universities have offered more than $1 million in scholarships to Phi Theta Kappa students transferring to their institutions.
Phi Theta Kappa has recognized and encouraged scholarship among community college students for 92 years while promoting the academic integrity of the associate degree program. Students with grade point averages of 3.5 or higher are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa.
The New Jersey Council of County Colleges is the state association representing New Jersey’s 19 community colleges.

If you are interested in running for an officer position, click here for a list of officer positions & descriptions. You must also attend tomorrow’s meeting to be elected:
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
Name: Andrea DeCarlo
Are you a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society?:Yes
Degree(s) pursued:Pre-Med
Why do you want to be an officer?: I really want to make the most out of being a Phi Theta Kappa member. I very much want to be involved. Throughout high school I loved doing anything community service related. I attended a performing arts high school so we often sang and performed at hospitals, old-age homes, and for fund raisers. Now that I am in college and I have this wonderful opportunity, I want to get involved again. I want to get as involved as possible. Im a hard worker, I wont let you down. =)
VICE PRESIDENT OF LEADERSHIP
Name: Josephine Richardson
Are you a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society?: Yes
Degree(s) pursued: Associate Degree in Biology ( Pre-Pharmacy)
Why do you want to be an officer?: It is a privilege and great honor to be a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Overcoming my fears was a challenge that kept me from standing to what I believed in. Occasionally elected as leader of group projects gave me confidence to go for what I desired and further enlightened my relationship with people around me. This Honor Society does not only promote academic excellence but also raise leaders. This is the step I am prepared to undertake as a Phi Theta Kappa Member.
